Having lived in the suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota since 1986, my wife and I had become accustomed to Scandinavian names and their unique spellings. Not only was our daughter (Kjrsten (pronounced kear sten) destined to go through life spelling her last name for strangers and teachers; she might as well spell the first name too. When it came to choosing a name for our first child it took us less time to settle on her name than it did for her arrival into this world. A lovely, healthy little girl. At seven pounds, fourteen ounces she was perfect óat least in her fatherís eyes.
